ATN Hunt Story : The Afternoon Arkansas Boar Hunt
Location: South Arkansas
Hunter: Damien Morris
ATN Product: ATN 5 LRF 640 4-32x
ATN Prostaff Damien Morris settled into his tree stand, taking care not to make any noise that could spook the wary Arkansas wildlife. It was 4:50 pm on a crisp 40-degree afternoon in South Arkansas, prime time for the region's feral hogs to start emerging to feed.
He had his ATN 5 LRF 640 4-32x thermal scope dialed in and ready. The sensitivity was set to 2 to pick up subtle heat signatures. The contrast at 2 would provide a nice balance between the heat blooms and background scenery. And a brightness of 3 gave a clear picture without being too washed out.
Damien scanned the area around the feeder 103 yards away, searching for any signs of movement or heat. The wait stretched on as the afternoon light slowly faded. Just as he was about to call it a day, his thermal optic caught the heat bloom of a large boar ambling into the clearing.
His heart rate quickened as he acquired the target in his crosshairs. Damien steadied his breathing, carefully placed the reticle just behind the boar's shoulder, and gently squeezed the trigger. At the rifle's report, the big pig dropped in its tracks.
With his prize secured, Damien was able to descend from the stand and make the quick 103 yard trek to admire his trophy - all thanks to the crystal clear thermal imaging that gave him confidence to take the perfect shot.
